Opportunity:
Conservation Applications of LiDAR Data
The University of Minnesota
Water Resources Center is presenting a series of
technical workshops on “Conservation Applications of
LiDAR Data”. The workshops are developed and taught by
experts from the University of Minnesota, MN Department
of Natural Resources, MN Board of Water and Soil
Resources, and USDA Natural Resources Conservation
Service.
AUDIENCE: The workshops are designed for GIS and
CAD users who address natural resource issues. The
target audience is employees from Watershed Districts,
Soil and Water Conservation Districts, counties, cities,
not-for-profit organizations, private firms, and state
and federal agencies.
PREREQUISITES: Participants must have intermediate
GIS skills, and they must attend the “Basics of Using
LiDAR Data” before any other modules. “Hydrologic
Applications is required before “Wetland Mapping”.
SCHEDULE: Sessions will be presented across the
state starting in March 2012. Visit the website for a
current list. More sessions will continue to be added.
TOPICS: Session modules include Basics of Using
LiDAR Data, Terrain Analysis, Hydrologic Applications,
Engineering Applications, Forestry and Ecological
Applications, and Wetland Mapping. More detail is

FUNDING: The project is funded by a grant from
the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund.
